Concentration camps were a place for anybody Hitler considered not Aryan or a threat to the government. "A camp where civilians, enemy aliens, political prisoners, and sometimes prisoners of war are detained and confined, typically under harsh conditions"(Website 2). Hitler dislike Jews and they were the most populated in the concentration camps. Women, children, and the elderly were killed in gas chambers. The men were forced to hard labor. The concentration camps increasingly became sites where the SS authorities could kill targeted groups of real or perceived enemies of Nazi Germany. They also came to serve as holding centers for a rapidly expanding pool of forced laborers deployed on SS construction projects, SS-commissioned extractive industrial sites, and, by 1942, in the production of armaments, weapons, and related goods for the German war effort (Website 1). At first the camps were meant for political prisoners but it expanded greatly. The living conditions were horrible and many died from being worked to death. A concentration camp was not the same as an extermination camp – camps constructed with the specific purpose of mass murdering Jews and other victim groups. Despite this fact, the concentration camps claimed many thousands of victims. Imprisonment in a concentration camp meant inhuman forced labour, brutal mistreatment, hunger, disease, and random executions. It is certain that several hundred thousand died in the concentration camps. In comparison, more than three million Jews were murdered in the extermination camps (Website 3). Hitler issued the "final solution" and that was to exterminate all Jews in Europe. This was a camp for mass destruction.
Both of these websites are credible because they are .org. It is a national museum and this is the website. It has directions and information about what the holocaust was and where it is. There is ways to contact the museum at the bottom of the screen.
